Love your feet! Take the first steps of training in the right shoes.

Shoes
Here are some things to consider when purchasing running shoes...
foot type: high arch, flat foot, normal arch, etc.
footstrike: heel striker, forefoot, midfoot
stride pattern: pronater, supinater or neutral
It's best to purchase your shoes at a store like Luke's Locker where an experienced
runner/salesperson will fit you in the right shoe for your foot.
Socks
Number one rule for sock purchasing: NO COTTON!!!
The point is to avoid blisters which are cauesd by heat and friction in the socks.
Cool Max is a good material choice as it wicks moisture from your feet. Running
socks are usually thinner and have a perfect fit just like your shoes. Be sure
to ask for the right socks when you are fitted for shoes.
Compression socks- ask about these at Luke's, but try going without these at
first. You might need them as mileage increases.
Apparell
Number one rule for clothing purchasing: NO COTTON!!!
Again, you want wicking material to keep the moisture off. Cool Max running shirts
are great.
You also need a great supportive sports bra.
Running shirts and shorts can easily be purchased at specialty stores like Luke's
or less expensive places like Academy or Target.
Accessories
These include things like headlights for running in the dark, race belts with
pouches to carry your gels and fuel belts with water bottles attached.
Other more expensive accessorites include heart rate monitors or GPS watches.
These are not necessary, but can be fun.
